Eleven students from Canastota High School recently participated in a job shadow/internship program organized by the Manufacturers Association of Central New York (MACNY). Accompanying them were Valerie Ray, Canastota CTE-Business teacher, and Liz Garofalo, Coordinator of Innovative Learning.
During the program, the students visited Oneida Molded Plastics and All Seasonings Ingredients, Inc., both located in Oneida. They were greeted by MACNY personnel and Human Resource Managers from each company who taught them how to give elevator speeches and discussed employment opportunities and job positions. After the lessons, the students had the opportunity to tour each company's manufacturing plant.
This program with MACNY aims to help high school students learn more about career opportunities in advanced manufacturing. The students will participate in career exploration activities, tour local manufacturing companies, develop and polish resumes, practice personal introductions, and participate in mock interviews with HR professionals from local companies.
MACNY is a non-profit 501(c)(6) association that represents over 300 businesses and organizations across Central and Upstate New York, including industrial manufacturing companies and non-industrial service providers that support the manufacturing community.
Other schools that participated in the event were Cazenovia, Madison, and Morrisville-Eaton.
