We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who attended and participated in the recent Esports demonstration. Nearly 80 individuals showed up to learn more about Esports and pose questions, making it a resounding success.
Rob O'Connor from Elite Gaming started the event off with a presentation outlining the potential benefits of involvement in an Esports program for students. Several eye-popping statistics were shared during the course of the presentation. For example, the gaming industry is projected to have over $200 billion in revenue by the end of 2023 (this is more than the music and movie industries combined), and there are over 100 gaming industry careers available to qualified employees. According to the statistics, gamers are three times more likely to pursue a STEM-related career.
Mr. O’Connor also highlighted how Esports can be beneficial for students from a social engagement standpoint, particularly those who are not typically interested in traditional school sports. Esports offers students a chance to connect with something they enjoy, experience a sense of team spirit, and acquire skills such as communication, decision-making, teamwork, and time management. Esports also improves attention, concentration, basic visual processing and executive functions, problem-solving, and self-confidence.
After the presentation, attendees were invited to check out the new Esports classroom. The classroom is well-equipped, with software installed and games ready to be played. Students and their families were so excited to be given the opportunity to try out some of the games and showcase their skills.
