Meet the Candidates
My name is Courtney Bazan Colvin—A Mother. An Educator. An Advocate. I grew up in this community, graduated from Canastota, and then spent a numberof years working in colleges and universities around the country before moving back home seven years ago. My husband and I intentionally chose to return toCanastota because we know what it means to be from Canastota. We know thevalue of a close-knit community, of supporting one another in good times and bad, and in working together to achieve our goals. We are thrilled to be raising our three children in the same town where we grew up. I’m a proud mother to three boys in 4 th , 6 th , and 7 th grades who are involved in Little League baseball, AYSO soccer, Skills and Drills, Canastota Children’s Council musicals, eSports, cross country and outdoor track. My work as an educator at Syracuse University supports students’ experiences I value communication, transparency, inclusion, collaboration and team building andplan to apply these skills to support all of our students, teachers, and community members while serving Canastota as a member of the Board of Education. |
I humbly ask for your support for election to the Board of Education. I have been a resident of Canastotasince 2009 and have two children in the District; a daughter in 11th Grade and a son in 8th Grade. My wife is a lifelong resident of Canastota and graduated from CHS in 1995.
I am currently self-employed as a Clinical Social Worker in private practice locally. My experience as a mental health practitioner have allowed me to work with and advocate for individuals, families, and
groups in many settings, including schools, community health centers, and correctional institutions. I am seeking election to the Board because our district is slowly declining in its functionality and has become a divisive source of friction and distrust. In order to restore our District to a model of health, a cohesive and inclusive environment must be established where no entity is deemed more important than the others, and we look to each other with a healthy degree of respect and humility for feedback and ideas moving forward. Additionally, a proper system of checks and balances must be restored to ensure that our resources are allocated in such a manner that our teachers and students become the primary beneficiaries. I believe that with the proper set of tools and requisite support and respect, our teachers will be afforded the opportunity to deliver the best educational experience possible so that our students can be readied forsuccess regardless of the path they choose when they graduate.
