We are proud to announce that Canastota Central School District received a Champions of Change Award from the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) for its Sports Management and Entertainment program.
The program, which is offered inpartnership with MOBOCES, received recognition for its outstanding learning framework andstrong partnerships with local businesses such as the Syracuse Crunch and International BoxingHall of Fame.
NYSSBA Area 5 Director Bill Miller presented a commemorative banner to the board, with
Sports Management teacher Jake Smith, MOBOCES District Superintendent Scott Budelmann,
Superintendent Shawn Bissetta, Badging Program Director Liz Garafolo, and Educational
Consultant Otis Jennings also in attendance.
During the ceremony, Mr. Smith highlighted the importance of utilizing local opportunities and
resources, while Mr. Jennings emphasized how programs like Sports Management keep students
engaged throughout the school day by allowing them to do something they love.
The Champions of Change initiative acknowledges creative educational programs that tackle
equity concerns, encourage academic triumph, and establish modern learning atmospheres for
students. CCSD is honored to receive this recognition and thanks NYSSBA for this wonderful
award.
