Nine students from Canastota High School had the opportunity to attend the second of four field trips organized and sponsored by MACNY (Manufacturers Association of Central New York). Accompanying them on the trip were Valerie Ray, Canastota CTE business teacher, and Liz Garofalo, Coordinator of Innovative Learning.
During the visit, the students went to Indium Corporation in Utica and Danfoss in Marcy, where they were welcomed by MACNY personnel and human resource managers from both companies. The MACNY and Danfoss staff taught the students how to present their resumes and how to start the job interview process. The personnel also reviewed the students' resumes and conducted short interviews with them. Additionally, the students had the opportunity to tour the manufacturing facilities at both locations.
Indium Corporation is a leading manufacturer and supplier to the global PCB assembly electronics, semiconductor, and thermal management markets. Danfoss Power Electronics facility provides New York’s leadership with next-generation semiconductor research, development, and commercial fabrication, meeting the worldwide demand for smaller, faster, and more efficient devices.
This program with MACNY enables local high school students to learn more about career opportunities in advanced manufacturing. Throughout the year, students will participate in career exploration activities, visit local manufacturing companies, and refine their resumes, personal introductions, and mock interviews with HR professionals from local companies.
MACNY is a not-for-profit 501(c)(6) association that represents over 300 businesses and organizations in Central and Upstate New York, including industrial manufacturing companies and non-industrial service providers that support the manufacturing community.
Other schools that participated in the event included Cazenovia, Madison, and Morrisville-Eaton.
