Staff Spotlight - January 2024

This month's Staff Spotlight is presented to Jill Mahony, Vicky Watson, and Jamie Rashford in honor of their hard work, dedication, and compassion for CCSD and our students!

Jill Mahony is a fifth-grade teacher at CCSD with an impressive tenure of over 18 years. She is an alumna of Canastota, graduating from the Class of 1993 and takes pride in her family's rich legacy of teaching that extends over generations. Both of her grandmothers and her mother were also teachers.

Mrs. Mahony holds an undergraduate and master's degree from LeMoyne College. She cherishes her association with a team of exceptional educators who prioritize the well-being and learning outcomes of their students and engage in mutual support. Mrs. Mahony takes pride in mentoring students and watching them grow in confidence. Her passion for teaching is rooted in her love for the Canastota community, where she grew up, and the joy of encountering former students who have achieved success and happiness.

Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Mahony is an avid reader, writer, and devoted family person. She considers her two wonderful children to be her greatest achievement in life. Mrs. Mahony feels truly honored by this recognition.

Jamie Rashford is a bus monitor/aide who has been working with CCSD for three years. She has a solid background in veterinary assistance and childcare, and prior to joining the district, she successfully managed her own daycare business for twelve years.

Mrs. Rashford takes great pride in creating positive relationships with the students on her bus and in being a positive influence in their lives. Her professionalism and dedication to the job make her a valuable asset to the district.

In her free time, Mrs. Rashford enjoys reading, hiking, geocaching, organizing, and spending quality time with her family and husband of twenty years. She is also a green belt holder in taekwondo.

Victoria Watson is an accomplished employee of the Canastota School District, having worked here for eight years. During her initial three years with the district, she served as a bus monitor, after which she transitioned to a role as a bus driver for the past five years. Prior to working for the district, Mrs. Watson pursued professional development opportunities, including completing a CNA course and attending a substitute teaching workshop at MOBOCES.

Mrs. Watson takes great pride in her ability to make a positive impact on the lives of the students she encounters. She loves being a constant presence in their lives that they can count on.

When not working, Mrs. Watson enjoys pursuing her hobbies, including reading, arts and crafts, walking, swimming, and spending time with her family.

Congratulations to these well-deserving recipients!
