New Principal at South Side Elementary School

The Canastota School District has selected a new Principal at South Side Elementary School, who will start in the new role on July 1, 2024.

Ellen Byrnes

Ellen Byrnes, who currently serves as the Dean of Student Support Services at Roberts Street School, is a seasoned professional with a wealth of knowledge and expertise. She has previously served as a Literacy Coach in the Canastota District, where she focused on aligning the curriculum with the science of reading. With over two decades of experience in education, Ms. Byrnes has worked as a reading teacher, ELA teacher, and Instructional Specialist. Additionally, she has 12 years of experience as an Education Coordinator for a Logistics headquarters division with the IBM Corporation.

Ellen holds a Bachelor's degree in Logistics from Niagara University, a Master’s degree in Reading Language Arts from Rider University, Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and a C.A.S. Certificate of Advanced Study from the State University of New York at Oswego. Ellen is NYS certified as a Reading Teacher, (Pre-K) Elementary Education Teacher, School Building Leader, and School District Leader.

When she’s not working, Ellen enjoys biking, swimming, group fitness training, and spending time with family and friends!
